Get your app rating

One number out of 100 for how strong your app is in its own category, built from live App Store data. Search your app and see where you stand.

What AR measures

Four market signals, weighted by our own model and scored against your category rather than the whole App Store. All four are things the market has done, not boxes a listing can tick. The findings in your report are how you move them, but the findings themselves do not affect the score.

A low score is not a criticism

Nothing here is looking at your app. Not the code, not the design, not whether it does its job well. Four public App Store signals go in, and all four are about how many people have found you.

A niche app built for a few hundred people may score low, and that's okay. The score measures reach, not quality. If you're happy with your audience, a 10 is fine. If you want to grow, it shows you how much room there is.

About the score

App Rating questions.

Is this Apple's official app rating?

App Rating is ASO Studio's own measurement, built entirely from public App Store data: an app's lifetime rating count, its star average, its chart position and how fast it is picking up new ratings.

It is scored against the leaders in the app's own category rather than against every app in the store, so a strong score in a small category and a strong score in a large one mean the same thing about the app's standing where it actually competes.

What is a good App Store rating score?

75 and above is leading its category. 55 to 74 is a strong position, 35 to 54 is established with room to climb, and 15 to 34 is emerging. Below 15 the app is hard to find, which almost always means too few ratings for the store to surface it rather than anything wrong with the app itself.

How is the App Rating score calculated?

From four public market signals, scored against the leaders of the app's own category: how large its rating base is, how fast new ratings are arriving, where it sits on the category's top charts, and how its star average holds up at its volume. How the four are combined is our own model, tuned so that a perfect star average on a handful of ratings cannot carry a score on its own.

Is the App Rating checker free?

Yes, completely, and there is no account to create. Search any app on the App Store, get its score, and read the four components behind it. The paid product is the Mac app that does keyword research; the checker is not a trial of it.

Can I check a competitor's app?

Yes. It works on any app in the App Store, yours or anyone else's, because everything it reads is public. Checking two apps in the same category side by side is the fastest way to see what the gap between you actually consists of.

Why is my app's score low?

Almost always rating volume: an app with a few dozen ratings scores low against category leaders holding tens of thousands, however good it is. Nothing in the score is a comment on the app itself. A careful niche app built for a few hundred people will read as a 10, and if that audience is the one you wanted, nothing is wrong. The number only tells you how far you have got in the category, which is the thing App Store Optimization moves.

How often is the score updated?

Each check reads live App Store data, and an app's page here is re-measured rather than frozen, so a score you saw last month is not the score today. The date the figure was measured is printed on every result.
