The short version
What the choice actually turns on.
Only the rows where these two genuinely differ. Everything they answer the same way is left out, because it cannot decide anything.
- 01
Stores. FoxData covers the App Store and Google Play; Astro is App Store only. If you ship on Android this decides it before price does.
- 02
Trying it. Astro: none. FoxData: trial. A permanent free plan and a trial that expires are not the same offer.
- 03
Scripting and AI access. Astro: mcp. FoxData: api.
- 04
Where it runs. Astro: mac app. FoxData: web.
- 05
Price. Astro publishes $108 a year, billed annually; FoxData publishes nothing and quotes on request.
- 06
Who each is built for. Astro sits in the indie tier and FoxData in the mid-market tier, which usually matters more than any single feature.
In its favour
What Astro does well.
- Broader Apple coverage: tvOS, watchOS and Mac apps as well as iPhone and iPad.
- More storefronts, at 60-plus countries, with daily ranking updates and historical charts.
- Built-in DeepL translation, which matters a lot if you localize into many languages.
- A mature, well-liked product with a longer track record than ASO Studio has.
In its favour
What FoxData does well.
- Ad intelligence, which is a genuinely different product from keyword research and something ASO Studio does not attempt.
- A set of free ASO tools anyone can use, alongside the trial.
- Google Play as well as the App Store.
- An API product for teams that need to pull data into their own systems at volume.
Ours, for the record
There is a third option.
If neither shape of bill fits, ASO Studio is $59/yr a year flat for unlimited apps and keywords, App Store only, with a free App Rating check that needs no account.
